Sunny Days always encourages play outdoors regardless of the weather. Anyone who has seen the impact that learning and playing outdoors has on children knows how powerful such experiences can be. Learning outdoors creates lasting memories, helps build a greater awareness of the environment, provides more opportunities to think independently, and gets children feeling challenged and excited by learning. Children are more active when they play outdoors; It is essential for their healthy development and enjoyment of childhood. Recent news stories have recommended children have three hours of outdoor play a day, today is national Outdoor Classroom Day and Sunny Days have been enjoying their outdoor areas.

We have been outside discovering things that live and grow in the garden. We went on a bug hunt and found a very confident snail who kept trying to slither away. Some of the children decided to make it a home, adding leaves to eat and water to drink. We talked about other things that need water. The children knew that plants need water to grow and collected rain water for the pear tree. We were surprised to see that some very small pears had started to grow.

Another group of children did some amazing thinking and made their own see-saw from resources they found in the garden.

We have also enjoyed playing with the new cement mixer, adding stones and water to create our own building mixture.
