Parading in the heatwave

Parading in the heatwave

It’s nearly been a week since temperatures reached a scorching 30 degrees and we took part in the annual Calne Carnival Parade.

The Carnival took place last Saturday and this year, the theme was ‘Around the World in a Day’. After much consideration and help from our pre-school children, we chose China as our country of choice. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about China, especially the Chinese New Year and their beautiful flowers and blossom trees because of their bright and cheerful appearance, so China seemed like a natural choice.

In the lead up to the event, all of our nurseries got stuck into making props, which included flags, fans, cherry blossom sticks and patterns. Families from all three nurseries took part, and one family even made us an amazing Chinese Sunny Days banner and Chinese dragon, which looked great.

On the very hot day, children, their families and staff dressed in their best Chinese attire ready for the festival celebrations and Carnival Parade. Like one big family, we walked the Carnival route, proudly parading the creative props our children had made, along with our banner and dragon.

Carnival 2

We had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of our families come together, including the Lyneham families who came over for the day. Thanks to Calne Town Council for putting on another spectacular Carnival and we look forward to next years!
