Continuous Improvement at Sunny Days – Working Together for the Best Start

At Sunny Days, we are always looking for ways to grow, reflect, and improve so that we can provide the best possible care and learning experiences for your children. Continuous development isn’t just something we do—it’s part of who we are. That’s why we’ve been investing in our leadership team, refining our nursery values, and strengthening our approach to high-quality early years education.

Our Commitment to Growth

Over the past few months, we’ve been working on key areas to support and enhance our nurseries:

  • Leadership Development: Our senior team—Fiona, Tracey, Lucy, and Karyn—have taken part in CliftonStrengths coaching and six key management training modules to help them lead with confidence and clarity
  • Refining Our Values: With input from our team, we’re excited to launch our new nursery values—SAFE: Safety, Acceptance, Foster Growth, and Engagement. These values guide everything we do and reflect our commitment to children, families, and staff.
  • Expert Guidance: We welcomed an external consultant from MBK Early Years, who provided valuable insights into what’s working well and areas where we can continue to improve.

Our New Nursery Values: SAFE

We believe that the best care and learning happen in a values-driven environment. That’s why we’ve refined our nursery values into SAFE, a simple and clear framework that underpins our work every day:

  • S – Safety: Ensuring behavioural safety, safeguarding, and well-being “We are committed to ensuring behavioural safety, creating safe and nurturing environments, building secure relationships, and promoting safeguarding and well-being for every child and adult in our care.”
  • A – Acceptance: Promoting belonging, inclusion, and respectful relationships “We provide welcoming environments where staff, children, and families feel a strong sense of belonging and inclusion. Respectful relationships are at the heart of everything we do, ensuring every child’s unique needs are supported with care and understanding.”
  • F – Foster Growth: Nurturing development through kindness, care, and curiosity “We nurture each child’s development with kindness, care, and curiosity, fostering confident, capable learners who are inspired to explore and grow. Our practitioners always strive for continuous improvement through reflective practice, feedback, and strong partnerships with parents.”
  • E – Engagement: Building teamwork, trust, and shared responsibility among staff and families “We value teamwork and trustful relationships between staff, children, and families. Together, we take responsibility for creating a connected and supportive community where everyone thrives.”

These values reflect our dedication to creating a positive, inclusive, and enriching environment where every child, family, and team member can flourish.

Exciting Changes Ahead

We’re already making improvements based on these reflections! This includes rethinking our environment layouts to enhance play and learning opportunities, as well as reviewing our observation, assessment, and planning processes to ensure we are always meeting the needs of each child. There’s also a fantastic lineup of pedagogy training for our staff, helping them stay up to date with best practices in early years education.

Your Voice Matters

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we’d love to hear from you! Your feedback is incredibly valuable in shaping our nursery’s growth, and we welcome your thoughts on what’s working well and where we can do even better. Keep an eye on our monthly updates as we share the training our team has undertaken and how it’s being put into action. Thank you for being part of our Sunny Days family—we’re excited for the journey ahead!
